About this site
Hello and welcome!
I’m Lucas Howard. I’m a cybersecurity engineer and data-focused security practitioner who enjoys turning complex technical challenges into clear, actionable solutions. I created this blog to share what I'm learning, document solutions to problems I've solved, and contribute back to the InfoSec community. My intention is to create a resource for coworkers, colleagues, and peers who want to grow their capabilities and broaden their perspective.
My career started in the military. I enlisted right out of high school in the Army National Guard as a 25B Information Technology Specialist. The training essentially consisted of the material from CompTIA's A+, Network+, Security+, and Cisco's CCNA.
We all start somewhere! My first IT job was with Geek Squad. I basically ran scripts for people with viruses. From there, I became a technician for a K-12 school system, and that was one of my most favorite jobs. Everyone loved seeing the IT guy because they knew their stuff was getting fixed soon!
I was deployed from in 2018-2019 to Syria and Iraq where I operated satellite and network equipment to provide voice and data services for a HIMARS unit. I learned a lot and had a lot of time to study for my Associate's degree thankfully. When I came back, I started as the Director of IT/AV and Security for a market research company and this is where I get to start to specialize in information security.
